words

Today X is a year and a half. Holy cow. I have such a big kid. I've done a fairly sucky job of documenting his life. Thankfully I have digital medical records to tell me how tall he was and how much he weighed every few months, and a gazillion photos so I can at least deduce when he got teeth, or crawled or climbed out whatever. This does little to document cognitive development though. And I'm biased, but he's so smart, and photos don't prove that. So, I want to make a list of words that he says, so at last he'll know that when he was 18 months he could say xyz.  He understands pretty much everything and follows directions as long as he wants to :-) I'll have to add to this list over the next few days because he says too many things to list off the top of my head. I'm only counting words that he says consistently and that have real meaning, so when he says try he's not mimicking, he wants me to try to do something that I told him wouldn't work. He will repeat almost anything if you say "can you say" but he didn't do it on his own and he doesn't always know what it means.

home for the holidays

This Thanksgiving x and I went to visit my dad in New Mexico. Well, we actually came home on Thanksgiving, but you get the gist. This was a big adventure. It was my first trip alone with x. We had a great time, and like always I left with an internal battle over good schools and options for work and x having family the way I did, and the way I see my cousins having it.
